Mema's Dishes

Here are the dishes I was talking about in yesterday's post.

Mema loved all things flowery and all things homey. How I miss her :(.

But I am so happy I have some of her things to remember her love. Mom has been so generous with letting me have whatever I want of her dishes and linens, she knows we both share a love of making our home pretty. I learned so much from Mema about "keeping house" and a lot of the times when I am making a bed or hand washing dishes I am thinking of her.

They are now some of my most treasured possessions.

Home Sweet Home!

I know it's Wednesday and I should be doing a "Wordless Wednesday" but I can't wait any longer to post these pictures, for more reasons than one ;)
All over the "decorating" blogs I follow the ladies are showing their houses "un-kept" you know just the way they are, without throwing stuff out of the shot or zooming in to keep stuff out, ha! I have never done either of those, wink wink.

I personally wanted to post some pics so I can look back and see how my style has changed and to look back and see the big mess or not so big mess, depending on the season of life :)

My living room most days, this is the space Brent and Lucas spend the most time in.

Un-fluffed cushions, throw pillows every where, ottoman pulled close for awesome movie watching ;), blanket, jackets, and in the left corner is "Chloe's spot that I keep covered with a pillow case, ha! But I think it looks perfect!

My kitchen.

At least there aren't any dirty dishes in the sink!

Kitchen table where we eat, play, computer, etc....

That is all for this messy home tour!

I've been wanting to change out my hutch for a while now. Let me jot down the history of this thing!

It is at least 180 years old, Brent's great, great grandfather made it for his wife out of an old boxcar. He worked on the railroad and wanted her to have something nice. Isn't that so sweet. We have all the details hand written on a piece of paper Granny wrote before she passed. I love this piece of furniture and it will always have a place in our home.

But I wanted to change up the stuff in it. I wanted to do all white dishes I have always loved white, I like to wear white and I love to decorate with it! And since seeing the Nester and Home and Harmony's blog about their homes, I feel it is ok to do white even with a 2 year old!

Anyway on with the show....

Here is the before...

Chip had to make an appearance ;)

And here is the after!

I love it so much more like this! Most of the white serving ware was my Mema's that my mom recently gave to me and I have a beautiful gravy dish, serving bowl, and platter that are very old from Mema, they have a really light floral pattern on them they are just perfect!

I will have to add pictures of those! And then a few other pieces I have picked up over the last few years, I've always loved to buy white dishes mainly because you can use them for an occasion!

This Friday evening I am having a Tastefully Simple party and I am getting excited about it! I can't wait to have some special ladies over and eat some yummy stuff! And show off my new couch!

Easter Weekend and Then Some!

We had a pretty good Easter this year! Very busy but good! We got to see a whole bunch of family and that's what matters most!

The Easter Bunny came to see Lucas and he was SO excited, mostly about the suckers! He has been asking for a sucker for weeks now! Chloe is also checking out the loot :)

We hosted Easter Dinner this year for my side of the family and I had a really good time! I just love having everyone over and not having to worry about packing Lucas up and going from house to house! And I love getting to use my "pretty dishes".

I got this wicker basket/rack thingy at Pier1 a few weeks ago, I'd had my eye on it FOREVER and finally broke down and bought it so this weekend I added little tags made out of scrapbook paper and ribbon. I love it! It sits right outside Lucas' room so we can put books/toys in it!

Here is a closeup of the book part, this is probably one of my favorite pieces of furniture (if you can call it that lol) now.

Lucas and his new car collection, he plays "cars" day and night every day! It so fun to watch him! He lines them all up then puts them in a bucket and carries them to another room dumps them out and lines them up again, so funny! I'm thinking he got my organization gene; yes!

This was taken yesterday. (yes my child does own pants, I just noticed all of the pictures in this post he isn't wearing any ha!)

Also yesterday Lucas went #2 on the potty for the first time at school! I am so proud! He is learning so quick about this potty-ing (sp?) business!

Easter Decor!

I am having an awful day at work but I had already planned to post this and I wanted to link up to In This Wonderful Life linky party. And all this stuff makes me smile :)

So here is my Easter Decor I have out right now! I am hosting Easter dinner at my house this year so I will be doing a bit more before then!

Front door wreath.

I love the little moss bunny in it! I saw these all over blogland last year and when I went to Pier1 a few weeks ago and they had them again this year I just had to get one.

Glass dome on my chest in my living room.

Close up of what's inside!

Simple spring mantel!

Ekk such dark pictures! Guess that's what I get for taking them at night!

My Thoughts Lately

*This is truly intended for me and no one else* My blog is my scrapbook/journal so I feel completely ok with writing how I feel. So here goes... My life is full of ups and downs as is everyone else's, lately I've had some downs in the social area of my life. I've had my feelings hurt more than once in the past few weeks by "friends"/family/co-workers that I interact with a lot. I have thought a time or two over the past few weeks I guess it's me, I guess I'm just a soft hearted weenie and I need to get over it. But I've always felt if someone hurts your feelings you should tell them if you feel like a: it will make you feel better b: will not hurt their feelings in the process. But I have learned that if telling them how you feel will make a bigger stink out what has already come to not say much, maybe that is wrong but telling someone something they don't want to hear ALWAYS makes things worse for me. I have told Brent before I've got to weed these people out of my life that cause my heart to hurt so often. And that is how I am feeling today, I'm hoping by writing this down I can go back and read this to give me some clarity when things seem to get foggy as they often do with these relationships. I have a hard time saying I will not see/talk/think about said people I just to have to have a different type of relationship with them. One where I don't give and give to receive nothing in return. I do not want to sound like the type of person who is always looking for her own good in the situation, that is so not me! But once you give people time after time after time and they still have no problem treating you bad that is where it gets me. I will say yesterday was was one of those days where some folks were just on my last nerve and I could feel the blood a bubblin! But Lucas had his spring program at school that I was pretty excited to see (pictures soon!) and we were going to eat afterwards with my mom and brother and Brent's parents. I also have to say I am so grateful to the family and friends who are so genuine! At the program last night I talked with a "newer" friend I hadn't seen in a while and she is one of those so sweet people who make you just want to be kind to everyone. Then having dinner with our "family" you know the ones who are always there and are always the ones you can talk to. Those are the times when I think I don't need the few who hurt me I need to put focus on the ones who never want to hurt me. And IF the ones who hurt me fade into the background it is only their loss. But most of all I just have to remember to ask and pray for guidance! Ahh that feels so much better to get that off my chest! He who has knowledge spares his words, and a man of understanding is a calm spirit. Even a fool is counted wise when he holds his peace; when he shuts his lips, he is considered perceptive. Proverbs 17:27-28

Luke's First Trip To the Pet Store!

I know sad but true Lucas had never been to a pet store and we have 3 pets! Ha! But with Wal-Mart and Target we have no need to go to a separate store for pet supplies, honestly I don't know who would if they aren't actually getting the "pet". Anyway I have been wanting to take him to see the "Nemos" and rabbits, for some reason he has a lot of books with rabbits in them. He was so excited to see the fish!

They didn't have any bunnies! I guess this close to Easter it's not a huge surprise but we did see some ferrets. Luke kept saying "look animals!" so funny!

I guess looking at all the animals made him want to go home and snuggle his own! He wanted to hold Chip so bad but Chip wasn't having it! Ha! Poor cats are getting way more attention than they ever wanted being in the house now!
